TOGETHER

WE RISE

Pride in the Highlands is a volunteer-run non-profit dedicated to serving the vibrant communities throughout the Haliburton Highlands. We work hard and play harder.  We provide a safe space for everyone to bring their full-selves to all that we do.  We lean on one another, lift each other up, and rise together. Whether it's through hosting events that celebrate inclusivity or providing resources and support for those in need, we are committed to making the Haliburton Highlands a place where Everyone is Welcome.

Hi! I'm Lindsay, the Volunteer Co-ordinator here at Pride in the Highlands.

I wanted to share a little about myself, what organizations like Pride in the Highlands mean to me, and why I think it’s important to volunteer. On this page, you'll also find future volunteer opportunities through Pride in the Highlands.

I'm an asexual and aromantic person. I didn’t have those terms to define myself when I was younger. I spent a lot of my youth wishing that I was more like the people around me and waiting to experience feelings of attraction like my peers did while pretending I did to fit in. At university my friend was the head of Pride on Campus. It was through him that I learned more about the LGBTQIA+ rainbow. It was through conversations with other members of Pride on Campus and friends on their own journey of self discovery that I gained a greater understanding of the asexual and aromantic spectrums. After some soul-searching in my twenties, I realised I was on that spectrum. I finally felt like I belonged somewhere and that I wasn’t alone. I credit the connections I made through Pride on Campus for that life-changing moment and the support system they offered me to work through those layers.

I hope to be that same support system for those who are exploring their own journey; to help people realize that they are not alone. Pride in the Highlands gives me that opportunity and be a part of a wonderful community.

Volunteering is a great way to be a part of Pride in the Highlands. Volunteers are the backbone of the wonderful events we produce throughout the year - we wouldn't have Pride with them. As a volunteer you’ll get to participate in events, connect with other members of our community, and be a part of the face of Pride in the Highlands. By volunteering at Pride, you directly help our wider community by creating connections, empowering LGBTQIA+ youth, sharing information, and taking a stand against bigotry. You’ll also make new friends and have a lot of fun! If you are considering joining the Pride Crew, drop me a line and let's connect!

Together We Rise,

Lindsay
